ABOUT US
The Singapore Primary Care Cancer Network (SPriNT) was established in 2020. Modelled after the Australian Primary Care Collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Group (PC4), the network aims to advance cancer care across the continuum of prevention, early detection, and survivorship within the primary care institutions.
Our Terms of Reference:
SPriNT is a network of primary care institutions, specialist cancer institutions and non-government cancer organisations.

Designation:
Professor Young is the inaugural Head of the Department of Family Medicine at NUHS. She has extensive experience in educating and training medical students, residents, general practitioners, and other health professionals in adolescent medicine, general practice, and primary care research. Her research focuses on trialling innovative models of care in the primary care setting to improve health outcomes for people with chronic diseases, particularly diabetes mellitus.

Professor Wee Joo Chng is the Director of National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) and the Group Director of Research Office at the National University Health System (NUHS) in Singapore. He is the Provost Chair Professor and Vice-Dean of Research at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine as well as the Deputy Director and a Senior Principal Investigator at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI Singapore), National University of Singapore (NUS). He is a member of various international professional organisations and has authored more than 300 publications. He has won multiple awards for his outstanding achievements in translational research both locally and internationally including the International Myeloma Foundation’s Brian GM Durie Outstanding Achievement Award, the National Medical Excellence Outstanding Clinician Scientist Award, the National Medical Research Council Senior Translational Research (STaR) Award, the National University of Singapore Young Researcher Award, and the Celgene Future Leaders in Haematology Award.

Professor William Hwang is Medical Director of the National Cancer Centre of Singapore (NCCS), Chair of the Oncology Academic Clinical Programme of Duke-NUS Medical School, Head of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Cell Therapy Centre and Senior Consultant in the Department of Haematology, Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Widely recognised for his expertise in haematological malignancies, Prof Hwang served as Head for SGH’s Department of Haematology and SingHealth Duke-NUS Blood Cancer Centre. His clinical and research focus is primarily on blood and marrow transplants and he has previously led SGH’s Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, and served as Medical Director of the Singapore Cord Blood Bank. He has published over a hundred clinical and scientific papers in the field of haematology and oncology as well as two books and several book chapters. As MD of NCCS, Prof Hwang plans to further improve patient care and advance NCCS into a global leading cancer centre.

Professor Jon Emery is the Herman Professor of Primary Care Cancer Research at the University of Melbourne, and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Primary Care Research and Education Lead. He is also Director of the Cancer Australia Primary Care Collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Group (PC4), and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge. Jon’s research program applies principles of implementation science and focuses on the role of primary care across the cancer continuum including prevention, early diagnosis and survivorship, aiming to improve the integration of health services. He leads a parallel program of cancer research between Melbourne and Cambridge on cancer screening, risk assessment and early diagnosis, and sits on several national and international advisory committees related to cancer early detection and survivorship, and cancer research.

Associate Professor Lim has been teaching NUS undergraduates since 2000, and Duke-NUS graduate students from 2009 to 2018. He has been a tutor of the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine programme since the programme inception in 2000 and mentor residents of the NUHS Family Medicine Residency, where he has helmed the Quality Improvement module since the inception of residency training.

Adj A/Prof Lew Yii Jen is the Chief Executive Officer of National University Polyclinics (NUP). A practicing family physician, Adj A/Prof Lew obtained his Masters of Medicine, Family Medicine from the National University of Singapore and is a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians, Singapore, FCFP(S). Adj A/Prof Lew oversees and plans the healthcare services, to enable NUP to be a one stop family health centre. He plans and develops relevant support for good team-based family healthcare at the polyclinics. He coordinates with the doctors, nurses, care managers, allied health professionals and the operations staff in the comprehensive care of acute and chronic patients, as well as communicates with the regional hospitals in the integration of care of patients across different institutions. Adj A/Prof Lew is also responsible for the overall coordination of the emergency preparedness of the polyclinics under NUP in the areas of civil and national emergencies including pandemic situations. His research interests are in family medicine and cardiology.

Adjunct A/Prof Chong Phui-Nah has been Chief Executive Officer, National Healthcare Group Polyclinics (NHGP) and Primary Care in Singapore since 2014. She is also Senior Consultant Family Physician, Fellow of College of Family Physicians, Singapore and member of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. In addition to her administrative role, she also helms Family Medicine Board which oversees and sets the direction for clinical services and patient care, education, and research as well as Quality Council in NHGP. She continues to practise at her Family Physician Clinic once a week.
She is a strong advocate for patient-centred care, paving the way for innovations. NHGP was awarded MOH Excellence Champions Medal at MOH National Healthcare Innovation & Productivity 2019 for NHGP’s Teamlet Care delivery model for chronic disease management and Best Practice Medal for Care Redesign: Teleconsultation Services for the care of Chronic Conditions at MOH National Healthcare Innovation & Productivity 2021.

Dr Joanne Ngeow is an Associate Professor of Genomic Medicine at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University Singapore and Senior Consultant, Division of Medical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. Dr Ngeow currently heads the Cancer Genetics Service at the National Cancer Centre Singapore with an academic interest in hereditary cancer syndromes and translational clinical cancer genetics. Dr Ngeow was awarded consecutive fellowships by the National Medical Research Council to complete formal clinical and wet bench training in Cancer Genomic Medicine at the Genomic Medicine Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. In addition, she is funded by the National Medical Research Council and Ministry of Health to explore how gene-environmental interactions predisposes to cancer initiation and progression as well as the implementation of genomics into routine clinical care.

Dr. Rose Fok is a family physician with special interest in oncology. She practices at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, caring for Breast & Gynae Cancer Survivors and runs a risk management clinic to optimise surveillance for mutation positive patients. She also practices at SingHealth Polyclinics (SHP), caring for patients with complex primary care conditions, and co-developing a community palliative care program. Dr Fok is a keen educator and is a faculty and ethics lead at the College of Family Physicians Singapore, Master of Medicine and Fellowship (Family Medicine) Programmes. She has a deep interest in health services research, especially in the areas of oncology like cancer prevention, screening, survivorship and high-risk surveillance. In addition, Dr Fok is passionate about primary care research in mental health, transitional care and innovative integrated care delivery models like shared-care. She is involved in various studies in oncology and family medicine, both in the capacity of principal and co-investigator. She advocates for “Cancer as a chronic disease” in the SPRinT steering committee and has collaborated to develop cancer survivorship clinical practice guidelines in breast and colorectal cancer survivorship. Dr Fok latest research on the “views of family physicians on genetic screening”, will pave the way for the development of precision medicine in primary care to optimise value-added screening, as well as focussing on preventive care and health promotion for the population.
